A friend of mine sent me an e-mail that shows us the GTA’s top 50 employers (this list is dated from 2007). If you’re planning to find a new company to work in Toronto or if you just want to research more about a possible companies to work in the future, the link should help you.
It is a publication from the Toronto Star with the profiles of those companies. I know it is from 2007, but of course it is a good start for you, right? Some of the companies are well-known in Toronto and I’d say around the world. If you’re looking for a job, take some time and read about the profiles. For most of them, you can go directly to the company’s website!
Back in 2006, when I was laid off, while I was looking for a new job I knew the companies that I’d like to work. Here’s one of them:
University Health Network
As one of the top employers in the GTA, the University Health Network makes a point of paying attention to its employees’ families. Whether it’s providing on-site daycare or giving scholarships to employees’ children, the organization hopes its benefits will help attract and retain employees. Maternity top-ups can run up 93 per cent. Paternity top-ups go up to 85 per cent for 10 weeks. The University Health Network also subsidizes employee adoption costs (www.uhn.on.ca).
Yeah, it was the University Health Network. Actually, there was a job position (web developer) and I sent my resume. I was also contacted and by e-mail and I had an interview with them. I remember that day – I had over the phone 3 people talking to me about the position, my skills and qualifications. I was not 100% prepared and of course, I failed. However, 3 days later I found another position on the company that I am working now and very, very happy. Interesting, my company is not listed on the top 50, but I am sure it should be there. I don’t know the process involved in selecting those companies.
