Refugees in Canada

by Gean Oliveira on April 3, 2008

I just watched a video from The National about Delia Sie: The article is called Delia Sie – from Burma to Canada. Delia is a refugee from Karen, a minority ethic group from Myanmar (Burma).

Some people come to Canada looking for a better life (which was my case). I did not leave my country because of problems related to war, terrorism, a safer place, anything like that. I just want to live better. However, for refugees it is totally a different history, specially because of the problems they’ve been facing during years and years.

When I watched Delia’s history, I could understand more why so many people try to live in Canada as a refugee. They just want to live as a human being, nothing more. I wish her and all the people having difficulties good luck. You can find more about the refugee system in Canada visiting the Citizenship and Immigration Canada.
