References available upon request

References available upon request: How often do you see this phrase at the bottom of your resume? Well, I’ve used this expression too on my resumes. I did, not anymore.

Reading articles about resumes and things that you should avoid, now this makes perfect sense to me. We all know that Resumes are used to get you an interview, right? If you did not put your references, means that you will give your references at a later date.

Do you still use this phrase at the bottom of your Resume? Do you agree with me?

  • Alex, that's what I meant. If I do have the references, to me, doesn't make sense to use this phrase at the end of the resume. And if you have doubts about the person you're interviewing, that's when you will ask for references.

I know it is one line. I've never had any complaints. Well, I just had 2 interviews during the period of 5 years. Both of them I've got the job and none of them told me it is inappropriate to use this phrase too :)

  • I beg to differ.
When you present to somebody a reference you explain where from do you know the contact/reference, in what relation were you and so on.
If you have, say, 3 references it's just too much to put it on the resume. I did a couple of interviews and if I have some doubts about the person I am interviewing, I will ask for references (after all he/she said will give references on request) and contact those references.

But, I get your point. Still, it's only one line, did you get any complaints/comments about this line?
