Canada Provincial Nominee Programs

by Gean Oliveira on March 4, 2009

For most people with the new occupation list, it is difficult to immigrate to Canada as a Skilled Worker. However, what most people don’t know is that they can also try to immigrate to Canada under a provincial nominee program! Every province in Canada have an agreement with the Government of Canada to allows them to select their future immigrants. So, if you don’t have enough points under the federal program, maybe you have a chance using the provincial nominee program, right?

Below you can find the steps that you must follow in order to apply:

  1. Choose the province in Canada that you’re interested and complete their provincial nominee process. If you’re approved, you will receive a Certificate of Provincial Nomination;
  2. Make a separate application to Citizenship and Immigration Canada for permanent residence (download, complete, pay fees and mail the forms to the respective visa office responsible for your application);
  3. Pass a medical examination and security and criminal checks;
  4. Prove that you have enough money support yourself and your dependents after you arrive in Canada
  5. Get your visa :)

Below you can find the list of provinces with their respective links, where you can find information about the provincial nominee program:

  • Yomi: According to CIC: Relatives in Canada: If you, or your accompanying spouse or common-law partner, have a relative (parent, grandparent, child, grandchild, child of a parent, sibling, child of a grandparent, aunt or uncle, or grandchild of a parent, niece or nephew) who is residing in Canada and is a Canadian citizen or permanent resident: 5 points

    Thanks for the reply,

    However, I have a relative residing in canada, can he file in application for me under the federal skilled immigrant process?

    Yomi: The time varies accordingly to the country that you're living. I've posted before about the application processing times in Canada. And yes, without a job offer, it is difficult to be accepted under the Provincial Nominee Program. As far as I know, the province of Quebec is the only one that accepts candidates without a job offer. However, you have to be fluent in French.

    I have 8yrs experience as a telecom Technician and still on the Job, How many year will it take to be able to migrate to canada under the skilled worker programme.

    Is it true that without job offer, one can not be nominated under the provincial nominee programme?

  • Guilherme: I did not have a chance to read all the information about each province and its provincial nominee program. I just read the information about Ontario and yes, you must have a job offer to be accepted.

    Gean,

    É isso mesmo ou estamos enganados ?

    Abraços.

  • Guilherme

    Hi Gean,

    As far as I know all of the PNP except Quebec require a job offer in order to be approved. Am I wrong?
