Canada Child Tax Benefit

by Gean Oliveira on May 29, 2008

The Canada Child Tax Benefit, aka CCTB, is a tax-free monthly payment made to eligible families to help them with the cost of raising children under the age of 18. As soon as you arrive in Canada as an immigrant you should apply. You can get the application for the Canada Child Tax Benefit here.

The amount that you will receive is based on the number of children you have, their ages, the province you’re living and your family net worth in the past 3 years. You now should ask me how the CRA will calculate the amount that I will receive if I just arrived in Canada as an immigrant? You have to fill out some additional forms.

If you want to have an idea about the amount that you receive you should check the Canada Child Tax Benefit calculator. Depending the area that you’re living, you should talk with a settlement agency in your area or directly with the CRA (in person or visiting CRA’s website).
