Breaking Down Barriers to Labour Market Integration of Newcomers in Toronto

by Gean Oliveira on February 13, 2009

I’d like to share with you a video that I found that can explain to you some of the difficulties that immigrants will face in Canada.

I’ve been talking to you about those issues and the study conducted by Nan Weiner from the University of Toronto to the IRPP (Institute for Research on Public Policy). As always, Steve Paikin from TVO does a great job.

Nan talks about four main problems with immigrants in Canada:

  • Credential recognition
  • Language issues
  • Requirement for canadian experience
  • Discrimation against immigrants

Please watch the video and think about it. (Also, read the article – link to a PDF file). And more important, prepare yourself before you arrive in Canada:

Now it is your time – what do you think? Please share your ideas/comments.
